When Logistics Becomes a Lifeline

Riverstone Logistics, Ashley Furniture Industries, and Samaritan’s Purse respond after flooding displaces more than 100 families on Oʻahu.

When flooding struck the North Shore of Oʻahu, more than 100 families were displaced in a matter of hours. Homes were lost. Routines were disrupted. And the need shifted immediately from recovery planning to immediate relief.  In moments like this, logistics stops being about freight movement—and becomes about restoring stability.

A coordinated response across partners
Riverstone Logistics partnered with Ashley Furniture Industries and Samaritan’s Purse to move essential household goods from California to families in need on Oʻahu.
Each partner played a critical role:

  • Samaritan’s Purse led on-the-ground disaster response, including debris removal and damage assessment
  • Ashley Furniture Industries provided and mobilized six containers of furniture from California
  • Riverstone Logistics coordinated the end-to-end movement from port arrival in Honolulu to final staging for delivery

At the center of the effort was a shared goal: help families re-establish the basic dignity of home.

Turning containers into homes
Riverstone Logistics worked with its Oʻahu fulfillment partner to receive shipments at the Port of Honolulu, transport them to the warehouse, and oversee the sorting, labeling, and staging of every order by household.  From there, delivery teams worked through each home on the list—ensuring every family received the essentials needed to restart daily life.  Living room seating. Dining furniture. Beds for every family member.  Small details, but foundational ones when everything else has been disrupted.

 On-the-ground leadership
Riverstone Logistics’ Kendrick Hawkins traveled to Oʻahu to meet with the fulfillment partner, delivery teams, and Samaritan’s Purse staff.  The focus on site was coordination without friction—making sure every handoff was clear, every delivery was aligned, and every team understood the same objective: restore stability to families as quickly as possible.

One family’s story
One moment that stayed with the team came from a family of seven who fled their home in the middle of the night with almost nothing. By the time deliveries were completed, that family -and every other household on the list- had what they needed to begin rebuilding life at home.

Relief operations continue until every home on the list is served. This is what it looks like when logistics becomes something more. For Riverstone Logistics, Love. Serve. Improve., is not a tagline – it’s a commitment to show up when systems are strained, and to help turn supply chains into lifelines.
